Khandpur When allied technologies get supported by telecommunications in particular, the countries with vast dimensions/far flung extremeties stand to reap the most out of such a blend. After Australia, India is another such country which is all set to extract the most out of telecommunications when applied in the field of healthcare delivery. Technology of telemedicine is one such technology which would transform hundreds of miles into a matter of moments. No doubt, quite like any other developing country, telemedicine is in its infancy here in India. But the pace at which the development in this techno-medical domain is progressing, the day is not far away when India would be on the map of international telemedicine links. We can foresee the technology of telemedicine as a modality not only to dock the two polar limits of the country but also to link Indian healthcare delivery system to any other part of the planet. The paper throws light on the current status of telemedicine in India by discussing the existing telemedicine links (and those under development). |
